Program Description

COURSE INFORMATION:

HTMT 360: Adventure Tourism - 3 credits

*Note: HTMT 210 is a prerequisite

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

Adventure tourism focuses on the operation and management of tour operators concerned with leisure activity that takes place in an unusual, exotic, remote or wilderness destination associated with high levels of involvement and activity by the participants in an outdoor setting. Canada's Banff National Park, during the winter alpine setting, serves as the destination for this course. Students will tour grounds, meet with key community members and leadership at the resorts and operations being visited, and participate in adventure tourism activites. Banff National Park is a World Heritage Site along the provincial borders of British Columbia and Alberta Canada.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

-Students must posses a valid passport, or be eligible to obtain a valid passport
-Students must have taken HTMT 210 prior to participation in the program
-Please note this program involves a variety of highly physical activities

Professor Clement in an Instructor and the Internship Coordinator for the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management in the School of Business. He has traveled and studied internationally, primarily in Europe. This will be his first foray as a program director to an international location. Professor Clement’s project and event management expertise will facilitate the planning and execution of this adventure.

Dr. McLeod is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism in the School of Business. He has participated in several programs with undergraduate and graduate students to international destinations such as the current program, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
