Estimated Costs: In addition to the program fee, students will be charged for tuition and fees as follows:
* 2015-16 in-state tuition rate for four credits is $1,832 (plus Library, Technology and Part Time Fees)
* 2015-16 out-of-state tuition rate for four credits is $2380.00 (plus Library, Technology and Part Time Fees). The out of state tuition for classes associated with travel are discounted from the Fall and Spring rates.

Program Description

COURSE INFORMATION:

Students take the following two courses:

COMM 315: Communication Ethics in a Multicultural Context - 3 credits
COMM 336: Addressing Problems in Context - Cross-Cultural Communication - 3 credits


PROGRAM INFORMATION:

Participants in this program will spend a month studying in three of Central Europe’s premiere capital cities: Prague, Budapest, and Bratislava. Two classes are offered: COMM 315 focuses upon communication ethics in a multicultural context, with a special emphasis upon the Holocaust. COMM 336 is designed to provide a survey of intercultural communication theory and practice, and to develop the student's understanding of communication between/among people of different cultural backgrounds both in domestic and international settings as well as a variety of contexts. As part of the program, students tour the Terezin Concentration Camp, Prague’s Jewish Quarter, Bratislava’s Old Town, and the Dohány Street Synagogue in Budapest, as well as castles, churches, museums and other sites of cultural, historical, and recreational interest.

Students participating in this program should be able to participate in several walking tours, which include climbing and descending some small to mid-sized hills.

Dr. Lacroix is Professor of Communication and teaches Cross-Cultural Communication both domestically and abroad. She has significant study abroad experience, having taught CofC students in Spain nine times since 2001 and has co-directed this program to Europe multiple times, most recently in 2015.
