Program Description

COURSE INFORMATION:

Students take the following two courses:

ARTH 102: History of Art - Renaissance Through Modern - 3 credits
MUSC 131: Music Appreciation - The Art of Listening - 3 credits

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

This course explores art and music in central Europe in three of its most important artistic centers: Berlin, Prague and Vienna. Students will encounter masterpieces of European art from the Renaissance to the modern period in collections of the major museums in each city. Students will attend musical performances at some of the most famous venues in Europe, including the Vienna State Opera and the German Opera. This course should appeal to arts and non-arts majors who are interested in seeing and hearing some of the very best art and music on the continent, and at the same time fulfilling two courses of the General Education Humanities requirement.

Students should expect lots of walking on this program.

Dr. Mazzone is an Associate Professor and Chair in the art history department. She has traveled extensively in central and Eastern Europe, studied abroad in Prague, and has visited all three cities of this program and their art museums.
