Program Description

COURSE INFORMATION:

Students will be enrolled in 3 credits of HTMT 360: Destination Iceland

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

This program is designed as an international course to explore, participate, and develop destination specific opportunities with existing organizations such as CVBs, chambers, tourist boards, and tourism suppliers. Students will develop advanced tourism management skills related to identifying, evaluating, and utilizing destination specific research and participant observation to support strategic business decisions and develop new products. Students will propose and suggest modifications to tourism products that mutually benefit the visitors and hosts. Students will also discuss and evaluate the marketing efforts used to attract specific visitor segments to the Icelandic region.

Students will examine destination management including best practices and alternatives in developing hospitality and tourism systems with an international destination. The destination management ecosystem includes the relations between hosts and guests, suppliers and consumers, and complex networks of residents, migrant workers, government officials, and international travel experience within the country of Iceland.

The prerequisite course for HTMT 360 is HTMT 210.

Iceland is considered an adventure tourism destination. This program involves highly strenuous activities, such as hiking, biking, rafting, swimming, caving, climbing, and running. In addition, these activities take place in regions with highly variable weather patterns and very cold water.
