COURSE INFORMATION: Students enroll in the following two courses: ENGL 326: Irish Literature - 3 credits ENGL 360: Major Literary Themes - 3 credits PROGRAM INFORMATION: Students will learn the central stories of the two main cycles of Irish mythology--the Ulster cycle and the Finian cycle. The course will cover the pre-history of Ireland, both real and mythical, and the culture of the Celts in the first few centuries A.D. Students will learn about the medieval transmission of these pre-Christian tales. And they will learn about the revival of these myths at the turn of the last century by studying the works of Yeates, Gregory, Synge, Joyce. Students participating in this program should expect frequent walking, and some hikes will be over broken ground.
