COURSE INFORMATION:

Students take the following courses:

FREN 360: French Language Study Abroad - 3 credits
LTFR 250: Francophone Literature of Dissent during French Colonization - 3 credits

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

Students will stay at the Domaine de Petite in Grans, outside of Salon de Provence. They will be provided with 2 meals/day and packed lunches/dinners during excursions. It is a beautiful area of Provence which allows for easy access to the most interesting sites in the region. The visits will concentrate on the Vaucluse and Bouches-de-Rhone. Based on enrollment, we will travel in a small bus. Our visits include landmarks such as Le Pont du Gars, Le Palais des Papes in Avignon, St. Remy de Provence, Les-Baux-de-Provence, Arles, Nimes, Cassis and Aix en Provence.

Classes will be held in the morning. FREN 360 will help students appreciate the complex history of the region by keeping a daily journal in French of all the cities and specific sites visited as well as being a guide for one of those visits. Students will draw a topic during the second meeting in early March, do some research before departure, and have all the material ready to present while in Provence.

LTFR 250 is offered in English translation. As a survey course, it will satisfy one of the requirements of International Studies and Comparative Literature concentration/minor. All material necessary will be uploaded on OAKS (including articles, short stories, excerpts/chapters of novels, quizzes, lectures, maps, etc.). Our time in the classroom will be dedicate to discussing the short stories/novels/articles/movies required for the course.

This program involves walking for long periods of time on a daily basis.
