COURSE INFORMATION: Students will take LTRS 210: Short Stories of 19th Century Russian Literature in Translation (3 credits) and one of the following courses: RUSS 201: Intermediate Russian (3 credits) -OR- RUSS 314: Russian Conversation and Composition (3 credits) PROGRAM INFORMATION: This program is for the fifth year in partnership with Mordovia State University (MSU) in Saransk, Russia which in 2005 was ranked among Russia's top 10 regional universities and in 2010 received title of National Research University. It has a student body of 28,000 that includes international students from eight countries. Classes will be held at the MSU Language School (http://www.fld.mrsu.ru/arts/), taught by CofC faculty and tutored by MSU students who speak English. The entire program is planned for 28 days, with 4 nights in St. Petersburg, 2 in Moscow, and the rest in Saransk. While visiting the former Russian capital of St. Petersburg, we will visit the Hermitage, one of the world's finest museums. We will have walking and boat tours of the city - the "Venice of the North" - and visit several former czars' residences, including the palaces and summer homes of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. While in Moscow, we will visit the Kremlin and major museums. In Saransk, students will stay in a MSU dorm, attend weekly classes at MSU, socialize with Russian students, visit local museums and theaters, and make a special excursion to Boldino, the historical estate of Russia's renowned poet, Alexander Pushkin.
