Passports and Entry Visa Information

You should apply for a passport and a student entry visa (if required by your host country) as soon as possible after acceptance into your study abroad program choice. Passport applications and additional information are available at the East Bay Street post office or online at: http://travel.state.gov/passport.
 
Visa information is available directly from the embassy or consulate of the country in which you will be studying. To find your destination's embassy or consulate information, go to: http://www.usembassy.gov/. If you are applying to an affiliate program, carefully review the information that will be sent to you by the provider.

 

FIRST AND FOREMOST, ATTEND A GROUP ADVISING SESSION.


CofC Program Application Process Steps

PART 1: Initial Application

  1. Log on to http://cofc.abroadoffice.net/index.html and create an account.
  2. Go to PROGRAMS and search for your program of choice. Click the "Apply" link next to the program name. This will link you to the application process for that specific program.
  3. Complete the program application online.
  4. Complete the Terms and Conditions online.
  5. Complete the Financial Agreement online. 

PART 2: If you are accepted into the program, please submit the following documents to the Center for International Education either on your online account or in person by the dates specified in the acceptance e-mail sent to you by a study abroad advisor:

 

  1. Pay the $250 deposit, which includes the $50 application fee on your E-bill.
  2. Complete the Health Questionnaire and submit to the Center for International Education.
  3. Complete the Treasurer’s Office Financial Responsibility Form through MyCharleston.
  4. Submit a copy of your passport to the Center for International Education.
  5. If you are planning to use financial aid or you are receiving a study abroad scholarship, complete the Study Away Program Certification Form then return to the Center for International Education.
  6. Pay the program fee and CofC tuition/fees associated with your program when it appears on your E-bill.
  7. For students traveling to high-risk areas: Complete a Risk Addendum. This form will appear in your Enrollment Forms only if it is necessary to complete.
  8. For the Trujillo program ONLY: Complete the Trujillo Homestay Form and submit it to the Center for International Education.
  9. Attend a pre-departure orientation.

 

Exchange Program Application Process Steps

PART 1: Initial Application

  3. Complete the application online.
  4. Complete the Terms and Conditions online. 

PART 2: If you are accepted into the program, please submit the following documents to the Center for International Education either on your online application account or in person by the dates specified in the acceptance e-mail sent to you by a study abroad advisor:

 

  1. Apply to the host university.
  2. Request an official transcript through the Registrar's Office or on MyCharleston.
  3. Complete the Course Approval Form and return to the Center for International Education.
  4. Complete the Health Questionnaire and return to the Center for International Education.
  5. If you are planning to use financial aid or you are receiving a study abroad scholarship, complete the Study Away Program Certification Form then return to the Center for International Education.
  6. Pay the $50 semester OR $150 summer program fee on your E-bill.
  7. Attend a pre-departure orientation.

Affiliate Program Application Process Steps

PART 1: Initial Application

  1. Log on to http://cofc.abroadoffice.net/index.html and create an account.
  2. Go to PROGRAMS and search for your program of choice either via the map or advanced search. Click the "Apply" link next to the program name. This will link you to the application process for that specific program. You will need to complete both the CofC application and the provider application.
  3. Complete the applications online.
  4. Complete the Terms and Conditions online. 

PART 2: If you are accepted into the program, please submit the following documents to the Center for International Education either on your online application account or in person by the dates specified in the acceptance e-mail sent to you by a study abroad advisor:

 

  1. Apply to the affiliate provider.
  2. Request an official transcript through your profile.
  3. Complete the Course Approval Form and return to the Center for International Education.
  4. Complete the Health Questionnaire and return to the Center for International Education.
  5. If you are planning to use financial aid or you are receiving a study abroad scholarship, complete the Program Cost Worksheet and Study Away Program Certification Form then return to the Center for International Education.
  6. Pay the $50 semester OR $150 summer program fee on your E-bill.
  7. Attend a pre-departure orientation.

 

Tips:

  • Be sure to set your email filters to allow proper delivery of messages from the Center for International Education.
  • Create a Study Abroad folder in your email to save all important messages regarding study abroad.
  • If you have note already attended a group advising session, please sign up for a session through our website.
  • Check your account frequently for updates to your application status.
