Ghana

Description

Ghana is located in West Africa and bordered by Cote d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. It is said the Ghana is geographically closer to the center of the world than any other country because the Greenwich Meridian passes through the country. The climate is overall tropical, while warm and dry in the eastern coastal belt, hot and dry in the north, and hot and humid in the southwest corner of the country. The worlds largest artificial lake, Lake Volta, extends through eastern Ghana. Ghana is a republic and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The president is the head of state. The Parliament of Ghana is unicameral and two main parties dominate: the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress.

In Ghana the official language is English, which is used in all schools but there are over 100 languages and dialects spoken. In this country it is relatively easy to receive a good education. Between 28 and 40 percent of the countries annual budget has been spent on education in the past decade and there are over 12,000 schools ranging from primary schools to public and private universities.
