Estimated Costs: In addition to the program fee, students will be charged tuition for their courses.

The out of state tuition for classes associated with travel are discounted from the Fall and Spring rates.

Scholarships up to $1,500 are available to support CofC degree seeking students. Eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need, academic merit, 2 faculty recommendations and a personal statement. The application can be found on the CIE website, under Study Abroad > Scholarships.
Program Description


MKTG/INTB 309: Marketing Study Abroad (3 credits)
HTMT 380: Managing Global Tourism (3 credits)


This program examines the most significant cultural, political, and economic environment in the second largest economy of China. This program exposes students to the opportunities and challenges of doing business in China for U.S. firms. Students will visit major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hong Kong. Students will also engage in academic activities at universities in China, as well as guided study tours to cultural and historic sites such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Bund in Shanghai, and the world-renowned Panda Research Base in Chengdu.

Students should be able to climb mountains and sustain continuous hiking.


-Students must have an overall GPA of 2.5
-Students must already possess a valid passport, or be able to obtain a valid passport


Dr. Henry Xie
Department: Management & Marketing

Dr. Xie is an Associate Professor of Marketing and International Business in the Department of Management & Marketing. Dr. Xie has directed summer study abroad programs to China since 2011.

Dr. Wayne Smith
Department: Hospitality and Tourism Management

Dr. Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Dr. Smith has also directed a summer study abroad program to China.
