Estimated Costs: In addition to the program fee, students will be charged for tuition and fees as follows:
* 2016-17 in-state tuition rate for four credits is $1,896 (plus Library, Technology and Part Time Fees)
* 2016-17 out-of-state tuition rate for four credits is $2,464 (plus Library, Technology and Part Time Fees). The out of state tuition for classes associated with travel are discounted from the Fall and Spring rates.
Program Description


Students take the following course:

BIOL/PSYC 359: Study Abroad in Neuroscience - 4 credits


This program is designed to enlighten students regarding the international nature of neuroscience research and the vast research opportunities and collaborations that are possible in today's scientific community. More specifically, the goal of this program is to expose undergraduate students to neuroscience research and training conducted by the consortium of the German Schools of Neuroscience (GSN) through an intensive four-week neuroscience seminar experience. Throughout the four-week program, students will interact with leading researchers through seminar style lectures, laboratory tours and demonstrations.


Applicants for this program should submit a one to two page statement of interest, a current transcript, curriculum vitae, and letter of recommendation, to Dr. Ruscio via email ( The deadline for the application will be February 20, 2017. Students will be notified of initial acceptance via email reply and they will then submit the online application to the Center for International Education through AbroadOffice by the March 1 deadline.


Dr. Michael Ruscio
Department of Psychology

Dr. Ruscio is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the College of Charleston. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University and has several years of experience in the field of neuroscience with an expertise in behavioral neuroendocrinology. He is Associate Chair of the Department of Psychology. Currently, he teaches Behavioral Neuroscience, Neurobiology and Behavior, and Hormones and Behavior.

Dr. Chris Korey
Department of Biology

Dr. Korey is a Professor of Biology at the College of Charleston. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University and has an expertise in the field of neuroscience, in particular molecular genetics. He is a past-president of the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience and currently is the Director of the First-Year Experience at CofC. He teaches Genetics, Molecular Biology, and FYE associated courses.

Both Dr. Ruscio and Dr. Korey have taught this course previously.
